Bloody Monday for Filipinos

An ex-policeman who hijacked a tourist bus, identified as Rolando Mendoza, speaks to a negotiator while a female hostage peers from the window of the bus in Manila. The dramatic hostage siege in the Philippine capital involving a busload of Hong Kong tourists has ended after 12 hours with several captives walking free but the fate of 11 others unknown.

The hostage crisis experienced by the Hong Kong tourist passengers of Hong Thai tourist bus on Monday morning, August 23, 2010 is one of the most horrible story made in the Philippine history under the present administration of Pres. Benigno "Noynoy" C. Aquino III.

Answer the following questions honestly:
  1. As a Filipino student, how it feels like being a citizen of this country watching the hostage crisis in a nationwide television coverage?
  2. Do you feel ashamed of being a Filipino?
  3. What is the first thing that comes in your mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis?
  4. What is the role of information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis?
  5. What is your message to the world who have witnessed the live hostage crisis?

As a Filipino student, it feels like I'm living in a disgusting country with our useless leaders, saying that the hostage crisis was not only covered by the national media but it was seen all over the world. The Philippines would really look pitiful.

Seeing that hostage drama? I am absolutely ASHAMED of being a citizen of this country.

2. As Filipinos, we fell ashamed about the incident, as the outcome was NEVER expected. BUT as a FILIPINO NOT involving the incident last night, we are still proud to be one :)
3. The First thing that came up to my mind about seeing last night's event live, I was already expecting that there is a possibility of someone getting hurt, but we weren't expecting that it will come to a bloody outcome!

to be continued!

1.While i am watching the hostage crisis in a nationwide T.V coverage i can't fully explain my feelings. At first, i feel so shock viewing this breathtaking drama, since it was the first ever bloody event happen here in our country and I can't imagine it will take a longer time.At that time, i really feel the fear and pressure for the safety of the hostage for what will be the next happenings as the seconds goes on and on, as you heard that frightened sound of gun. Maybe, at that time also,I can say i am one of those concerned Filipino citizen of our country, thinking of what would be the feelings of other people specifically the people in Hongkong and in other country seeing this hostage drama. Also, I feel worried for the bad effects it may brought to the people and specially to our beloved country (PHILIPPINES).

2. Actually, I'm not ashamed of being a Filipino after viewing the hostage crisis and no matter what happen i will continuously be proud of it. Honestly, i feel so ashamed not for being a Filipino but for what happened here in the Phil. because for sure it may affect the image of our country. And of course, I feel the great disappointment for the side of the higher authority specifically the action done by the police that time, and since it was lasted 1o hrs. to recover all the hostage. Due to the insufficient facilities here in the Phil. , inactive ,and sluggish respond of the police operation many hostage tourists were died. But for me, if they made right away an immediate initiative plan and action maybe it will not take for too long hours to save the victims and also there will be a chance to decreased the rate of dead victims, since they were responsible for this kind of unexpected happenings. I really feel so ashamed and disappointed for them! And because of this, it is shameful to the other country who chose the Phil. one of their Tourist's Destination.

3.The first thing that comes in my mind right their seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis is that will be a difficult, challenging, but dangerous task for the police on how they will handle that kind of situation. And it will take for a long hours to resolve and recover the victims from the hostage taker. And maybe it may lead to a bloody event and will brought a greater issues in different part of the world since it was aired in nationwide T.V coverage.

4. The role of info. communication tech. in mass media during the hostage crisis is it serves as a source of information and communication to delivered complete information and news to the viewers and listeners. It's for everybody's awareness!..

5. All i can say is i hope after we had witness the live hostage crisis, we should not judge right away the Filipino. I hope the people of diff. country will give the Phil. a chance for this unexpected happening. And this will not affect the the good relationship of the Phil. in other countries especially the Filipino to the foreigners who ussually visit here in our country.I hope too the tourists will continue visit the Phil. and admire for its amazing beauty. I hpoe this will not happen again and let's all pray to God the peacefulness of our country and esp. for the people/ victims who died in the hostage taking. Dispite for this, as a Filipino citizen of the country, we have to remain strong for all the issues and bad comments that we might be face as the day's goes by. I hope ashamed of being a Filipino after seeing the coverage. I also feel sorry for those Hong Thai people and for the family that had witness the live hostage crisis and also for the diff. country where the victims came from for being dismayed and disappointed by the police action. They try their best to protect their safety but it seems it is very hard and dangerous for them to handle the situation. We understand all your feelings regarding this but, we should not blame anyone even the police, the hostage taker and specially the Filipino people because, "HINDI LAHAT NG FILIPINO AY MASAMA"...(By:JASMIN_)

1. As a Filipino student it feels very disappointing being a citizen of a country whose government is incapable of handling such a horrifying hostage crisis. What disgusts me the most was the worldwide coverage of the drama. Imagine the whole world watching the danger they can encounter in the Philippines . It will surely bring bad effects not only to our country but also to those Filipinos that stay in other countries."Here comes criticisms."

2. Upon seeing the hostage crisis ,Yes. Who will not be ashamed of it??
But still there's more we need to be proud of being a Filipino. The mistake of some persons should not be blamed to everyone.

3. Honestly, I only thought that the scene is quiet usual, It's just the hostages are tourists that makes it special. But as the crisis went on, little by little i had felt the danger ,the nervousness and the horror of the hostages inside the bus, I really felt sorry for them.
Thinking of what the policemen ad negotiators are doing it was very irritating .They've only proved that our country is poor, dangerous for the foreigners, and pitiful.

4. The role of the information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is that it allowed the hostage taker to see what was happening outside the bus..causing the execution of the lives of the Chinese nationals. For me, though they need to cover the incident they should've followed the guidelines of the police.

5. To all those people who had seen the the live hostage crisis , I pray that you would not generalize us(Filipinos) in what irresponsibilities and mistakes that had taken place in the crisis . Don't base your conclusions in that unexpected happening. No one wants it to happen.
That blot on our escutcheon is very big. We don't want it to get worst. It would not help criticizing the persons that are not involved.I know that we all feel sorry for the lives of the victims.
Help us pray for them....

1. As a Filipino student, I feel nervous and my heart really pumps when I saw on the television because I know that we aren't the only one who watch the hostage drama but the whole international community watched also and they saw the mistakes of our national police.
2. Yes, I feel ashamed because I know that the hostage victims are innocent and they didn't know what is happening and also they didn't know that their lives is in the end.
3. I feel nervous and greatly depressed.
4. The role of the mass media coverage of the hostage crisis is to share the news but they have to control their coverage.
5. As a Filipino. I am very sorry for what happened last hostage taking. I know that it is such a disgrace for us Filipinos and we don't want what happened and please do not involve the innocent Filipinos for they didn't want the incident to happen.

As a Filipino student, it feels like disappointed, because Filipino citizen's are very kind and they didn't do to hostage just to have a attention to his case and if it is true that he is not guilty on his case, why he must do that violent action.
I didn't ashamed being a Filipino, because not all Filipino citizens are not like that and Filipinos are know as a friendly citizen.
My message to the world is don't thing anything bad about the Filipino's, because not only in the Philippines theirs a hostage.

1.As a Filipino student and citizen of our country,I feel worried while watching the hostage crisis in the nationwide television.Worried because the crime that happened killed many lives of innocent people in just a wink of an eye.I also feel very disappointed in a sense that the expectation of many foreigners and other countries regarding us are wasted.I got hurt because for so many places in the world,it occurs in the Philippines.

2.Well,after seeing the hostage crisis,I've never been afraid of being a Filipino because deep inside I knew that the blood and inherited genes of being a Filipino still flow on my very precious veins. And I do understand the situation, for everything happens for a reason. For me a true Filipino is not afraid nor ashamed to speak loud their true nationality if they are really proud of being one of it.

3.The first thing that comes on my mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis is that this crime will cause a very bad result especially in the field of our society and government unit. This will affect the tourism in our country and as a result we will fail to have our success which is a big bream of every individual in our country.

4.The role of information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is that they are the one who are capable of giving us the exact information of what is happening around us.They provide us prior knowledge about the present news and situation which occurs in a certain place of our country.

5.My message to the world who have witnessed the live hostage crisis goes like this:
My dear endeavors and co-creations of God,everything happens for a reason. As a concern citizen of this country,Philippines which is known as ''Pearl of the Orient'' I hope you can accept my sincere apology. Please don't be affected of what happened.I do understand yours feelings but still stand and have a positive outlook for everyone of us are experiencing bitterness in life.I do hope that you will still accept us despite of what happened. Please don't judge us because we also have our feelings. No matter what happen,we will stood up straight, held our forehead high and will proudly say,''We are Filipinos and Philippines is our country.''

1.As a Filipino student, as I'm watching the hostage crisis in a nationwide television coverage I felt nervous because its a big problem again our country was to face under the administration of Pres.Benigno Simeon "Nonoy" C. Aquino III. It wasn't just an ordinary problem but it's an extraordinary one because it affects the pride and reputation of the Filipino citizens due to the said hostage crisis. Also I felt somewhat scared of what may happen to the hostages.
2. If I were asked if I'm ashamed of being Filipino without any doubts i will answer no because being a Filipino, we shouldn't be ashamed instead we must be proud that we are the Filipino's.With regards to the hostage drama it doesn't make me feel ashamed of my motherland because no matter what happen we are the citizens of the Philippines.
3.The first thing that comes into my mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis was,the people are blind in money and power that they will anything just to become powerful eventhough their life be the change. That's why I quoted this saying, "Money and Power is sometimes are the roots of evilness".
4. The role of information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is, they give the live happenings during the hostage drama. They also give the sufficient information to the people with regards to the hostage crisis.
5.My message to the world after the hostage crisis is,don't be afraid to visit Philippines because not all the Filipino's are not criminals. It was a big mistake and were hoping that it wont happen again in the history of the Philippines.

Last August23, a mourn Monday evoked our heart. A hostage drama was took in Quirino Grandstand. Sr. Insp. Rolando Mendoza hostage the Hong Kong Chinese national.

1. As a Filipino student, how it feels like being a citizen of this country in a nationwide coverage?

---As a young Filipino student who is aware with this tragedy that happened in our nation, i feel ashamed like being a citizen of this country while i was watching the hostage crisis in a nationwide television coverage because everyone witnessed the most tragic hostage taking and also it is a very big lost to us because the tourist will not trust us and they are afraid to come here in our country because they are wondering that this will happen also to them. i also feel shy because of course, the hostage taker who was Sr. Insp. Rolando Mendoza is a Filipino and he killed almost eight Hong Kong Chinese. it is so embarrassing situation but on the other hand, i feel proud because we have a brave polices and SWAT team who were forcing themselves to stop immediately the hostage drama even though they used the wrong strategy.

2. Do you feel ashamed of being a Filipino?

---As what i have said in my first answer. i really feel ashamed being a Filipino due to this hostage crisis because we are being a Filipino due to this hostage crisis because we are being humiliated by the world, being underestimated and they have put some bad description to us because of what has happen. Also, it is very embarrassing because the investigation of the said hostage crisis is slow and also the justice.

3. What is the first thing that comes in your mind when you see the live coverage of the hostage crisis?

---The first thing that comes in my mind when i saw the live coverage of the hostage crisis was shocked because i cant imagine that police like Sr. Insp. Rolando Mendoza can do that kind of hostage drama but later on, i understand him why he did it. also, disappointment to the polices who arrested the brother of the hosatge taker who is SPO2 Gregorio Mendoza. (but honestly, i really enjoy watching the hostage crisis because it just like a scene in an action movie., jejeje)

...to be continue...

3.The first thing that comes in my mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis is the way of the police or the authorities on how they will catch the suspect that having a high powered gun.
4.The rule of the information, communication, technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is to inform, to give news and to show to the people of what is happening in the hostage crisis.
5.My message to the world who have witness the live hostage crisis is please don't do the same like what the suspect had made if we want to make our country peaceful and have unity. If we have done anything wrong to our sevice, just accept it because it is our fault.

1. As a Filipino Student, I feel angry on the hostage taker at the same time on the police officer while watching the hostage crisis nation wide television coverage because the police officers are being irresponsible on what happened on the hostage taking.

2. Yes, I feel ashamed of being a Filipino after I watched the hostage taking because the media and as well as the policemen have been being irresponsible. The policemen don't have any tactics on how to stop the crisis compare to the other countries and they do not have a proper equipment in the said incident.

3. The first thing that comes in my mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis is the way the authority handle the situations, they do not have any plan on how to arrest the taker even though they have a lot of time to think about it. The media also captured my attention, they a having a live coverage when they are already know that the suspic is watching them live through their coverage.

4. The pole of information communication technology and mass media during the hostage crisis is to provide the people about the latest news and information about the crisis. But I think they contributed a lot in the action of Mendoza thats why he killed some of his hostage.

5. My message to the world who have witnessed the live hostage crisis is, don't judge us Filipino by that incident, not all the Filipino are like Mendoza. The mistake of one is not the mistake of all. Please don't judge us, we ourselves don't want that to happen. We admit it's our fault, we are very sorry on what happened..

3.The first thing in my mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis is the police operation is not good to see because they have no enough high powered guns and protective suit.

4.The rule of communication and mass media during the hostage crisis was they were so greedy to have the news report. To inform,to give some idea to the hostage taker of what the policeman do.

5.The message i would like to say in the whole world who witness the live coverage of the hostage crisis is to extend and say sorry for what happened especially to the family of the victims. To the hongkong nationals, sorry for the bloody tragedy cause by the filipino.

1. As a Filipino student of this country, watching the hostage crisis drama in the nationwide television coverage,..it feels like, being in a miserable and insecure country.

For me, as of what happened in our country will cause again a bigger problem and issue in other nations which can affect the rate of tourism and living in our country and by the hostage drama that occurred, will result a "Bad Image" to other nations who had witnessed and heard about what had just happened in our country.

2. As a young student, I feel sad about what happened in our country but I am NOT ashamed of being a Filipino in fact I should be proud of being one because throughout the world, we Filipino's are widely-known to be talented, having great leaders of our country which are Dr. Jose Rizal and Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino who fought and gave their lives only to attain freedom and democracy in our country.

There is NO way of reason that I should be ashamed of being a Filipino because not only our country had done those unwanted incidents but also the other nations who are far much worster than ours. But as a concerned citizen, I am ashamed and sad to the Chinese Nationals and other foreigners that were killed in the hostage crisis drama but as of what I expect that someday, in our future times..,that our nation and the others will attain peace and understanding to each other...

3. The first thing that comes in my mind seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis drama is that; our nation is facing again another problem which can result to a low tourism rate in our country and it may develop a bad influence and ways to other nations who had witnessed the unwanted incident that occurred in our country.

4. The role of information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is to help, inform and describe the happenings that occurred in the hostage crisis and for us to know the situation lively, and if our government is doing something to stop/solve the hostage crisis and also for us to know if our facilitators and polices takes action in solving the hostage crisis.

5. My message to the world, who have witnessed the live hostage crisis, is to develop self-understanding of what have just happened, respect oneself in many ways, promote peace and development of unity through each individual...

"PLEASE do not do the same thing and incident that happened in our country."

As of what we all know that there is no such thing that is perfect; like countries and their people throughout the world that should be treated and handled well by their leaders.

So for me, as a young student beside the unwanted happenings in our nation.., I am still PROUD OF BEING A FILIPINO!..

1. As a Filipino student, I felt sad of what had happened to the Hong Kong tourist. As I watched the live television coverage I am disappointed with the action of our national police. I am scared with the lives of the hostage victims and how will be the critics of other nations with us on how our government action for this kind of accident.
2. I don’t feel ashamed of being a Filipino because I have a lot of things to be proud of. Our country is rich in natural resources, culture and tradition. The hostage crisis is an unexpected incident no one wanted it to happen. But, in the same time I feel little bit mad with our government officials on how they handle this kind of situation. This is just a challenge to all of us and a lesson also.
I AM PROUD TO BE FILIPINO.
3.The first thing that comes in my mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis, is that the Philippines will be on the headlines of the news worldwide because the hostage taking was reported blow by blow. It would bring a nationwide embarrassment to all by the worst critics of foreign countries especially the Hong Kong because there citizens were the victims. Foreigners will be afraid for the safety in visiting our country.
4. The role of information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis it told the world the true live scenario of the hostage taking in our country. It reported to all how poor our authority to handle this kind of situation. They just told the truth.

5.I as a Filipino student, wholeheartedly sorry for the hostage crisis. It is just an incident, no expected it to happen. I asked your open-minded understanding about the situation. It is an isolated case and happen all over the world.
I asked from all of you the wise judgment that not all Filipinos is committed to the hostage taking.

1. As a Filipino student, how it feels like being a citizen of this country watching the hostage crisis in a nationwide television coverage?

As a student, and being a citizen of this country watching the hostage crisis in a nationwide television coverage I feel nervous for what may happen after that situation, because their will be negative effects not only to our country and to people here but also to those Filipino working abroad. Example for that negative effect is, tourism here in Philippines will decrease, especially since those involved were foreign tourists specifically Chinese nationals.

2. Do you feel ashamed of being a Filipino?

In my side, I am not ashamed of being a Filipino. I am proud to be a Filipino citizen. The thing that I am ashamed of is for what happened in that hostage taking is for those Chinese and in their country. Because they are innocent or did not know what was happening. The process of negotiation for that hostage taker was not a success, that is why many lives were lost and for this reason why I ashamed to them.

3. What is the first thing that comes in your mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis?

The first thing that comes in my mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis is the safety of those hostages and to end that hostage taking drama so that there no lives will be wasted. Because being a hostage is very horrifying and I know what they feel even though I am not a hostage or even experience being a hostage.

4. What is the role of information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis?

In my own opinion, the role of information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is to cover and report what is the actual situation in that event. It is because media is really a big help to us to see and know what is happening around the world.

5. What is your message to the world who has witnessed the live hostage crisis?

My message to the world who witnessed the live hostage crisis is; in behalf of Filipino people I am sincerely apologize for what happened because even us were shocked seeing that bloody situation. I know that this event is unforgettable so we must learn from this mistake and do not blame the police men or the president for what happened because all of us witnessed what really happened and how hard to handle such situation.

1. As a Filipino, while watching the hostage crisis in a worldwide tv coverage, being a citizen of this country it feels like your one of the hostages. My heart beats fast as the policemen do some things that could help the hostages.
2.being a Filipino i would say partly yes but not totally ashamed because I never thought that this thing will happen in our country and because the Philippines was one of the most dangerous country because of the recent Maguindanao massacre. But every Filipino shouldn't feel ashamed because we are still Filipino no matter what happen and no one can change us, we should love our country because we are living here.
3.the first thing that comes in my mind seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis is that i can't believe it and another problem has come to our country which is hard to accomplish.
4. the role of the information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is they are the one who spread the news or information not just in our country but also in the world. they captured the whole hostage crisis and they gave the complete details on what is happening regarding the hostage crisis.
5.my message to the world who have witnessed the live hostage crisis is don't blame the whole nation with the fault of the other because everything has a purpose. eventhuugh some people died still the Filipino did their best to save the lives of the hostages. everything has a solution, things will get better soon.

1. As a Filipino student I fell somewhat disappointed because it is an unexpected happening and as a result of this, it nay affect the relationship of the Philippines and Korea. Watching it a nationwide television coverage feels a bit nervous because we cant avoid ourselves to think of what may happen to the hostage victims.

2.I am not ashamed of being a Filipino because not all the Filipinos are someone like Rolando Mendoza and as a matter of fact its just an incidence that we cant avoid to happen as long as we live in this world. We should not be ashamed because there are many things that we must be proud of being a Filipino.

3. The first thing taht comes into my mind right there seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis was, it a big problem that our country has to face.It takes a lot of time to bring back again the relationship of the Filipinos and the Chinese Nationals. It may frightened the foreigners to visit our country.

4. The role of the information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is, they are the one who spread the news to the people in order to be aware of the current event and also they provide with complete information of what are the happenings during the hostage crisis.

5. My only message to the world who have witnessed the live hostage crisis are, they should not be afraid of visiting the Philippines because not all the Filipinos possess the characteristics just like what Rolando Mendoza have. And may we maintain our relationship with other countries.

5. My message to the world is don't judge all the Filipinos just because of that hostage taking incident, it's just an unwanted incident that nobody was expecting to happen and for the Chinese that witnessed the live coverage, please don't hate all the Filipinos especially those Filipinos who are working and lives in your country because they are not like Rolando Mendoza.

as a filipino student it feels like , we filipinos are so embarassed to other country. other country criticized all the filipinos , innocent filipinos. It is shameful for me.it is so disgusting. The role of information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is they are the one who spread the current news worldwide. My message to the world who have witnessed the live hostage crisis i hope they still visit Philippines they must not afraid because not all the filipinos have the same character w/ Rolando Mendoza.

1,As a Filipino student, watching the hostage taking makes me feel worried about the criticism that can encounter of or country. I am disappointed to see the policemen who are not capable of making quick steps to rescue the hostages. Disgusting...tsk.tsk...
2. Sad to say, yes, I am ashamed of being a Filipino with what happened, esp. to all Hong Kong nationals.
3.The revenge of the Hong Kong nationals; that’s the thing that comes in my mind while watching the live coverage of the hostage crisis, because I know they are angry of what happened. I am afraid that Philippines will be hated by other country.
4. The information communication technology in mass media affected the calmness of the hostage taker and the hostage negotiation that results to the death of some hostages.
5. To all who have witnessed the live coverage of the hostage crisis, I hope you will not hate all Filipinos esp. those who are not involved, and I hope you will forgive us, because, Filipinos are not perfect. Philippines is not a perfect country. I feel sorry for what happened. Let’s just pray that this will not happen again.God bless!!!

1.As a Filipino student i feel sad of being what happened but I'm still proud of being a citizen of this country because the hostage crisis last Sept. 23,2010 happened only once.
2.No, I'm not feel ashamed of being a Filipino..but still proud of being a Filipino, because we Filipino a hospitable people and courteous people of all the nation and there is no reason to be ashamed of being a Filipino of what being happened last Sept.23 2010.
3.The first thing that comes in my mind right their seeing the live coverage of the hostage crisis is it gives big impact the bad image of the Filipino people it shows also that our country is weak country compare to the other nation.
4.The role of the information communication technology in mass media during the hostage crisis is to cover and spread the news of being what happened last Sept.23 to the people.
5.My message to the world who have witnessed the live hostage crisis are, we feel sorry of what being happened and don't blame all the people here in our nation of being what happened it is not our fault and because what happened we have to maintain our good characteristics being a Filipino.
